Nikon introduces its new sub-aquatic Compact System Camera

Now here’s an extremely tantalising addition to the Nikon range. The company’s new Nikon 1 AW1 is ‘the world’s first waterproof and shockproof interchangeable lens camera’. It’s also the first underwater compact camera we’ve seen that doesn’t actually look like an underwater camera. In fact we think it’s gorgeous. Stylish and luxurious in design, this game-changing device screams ‘buy me’.
Water sealed to 15 metres and shockproof from two metres, the AW1 comes with a CX-format CMOS sensor with a resolution of 14.2-megapixels, an Outdoor Display mode for easy adjustment beneath the waves, a waterproof pop-up flash, a burst rate from 15 frames per second to, get this, 60 fps in fixed-point AF mode and instant sharing over wi-fi. Launching alongside is a pair of model-specific lenses: Nikkor’s AW 11-27.5mm zoom and the super wide angle AW 10mm f2.8. We can’t wait to get our mitts on one. Watch this space!
