Got £8,000 to spare? LG’s just announced the UK arrival of its new, possibly groundbreaking curved OLED 55” TV (model number 55EA980W). According to LG, a curved TV offers the optimal viewing experience because the entire screen surface is equidistant from the viewer’s eyes. It supposedly offers a more immersive home-viewing experience akin to that of cinema. And who are we to disagree? The display itself is just 4.5mm deep. And that’s thin, incredibly thin! OLED TV is much more energy efficient than LCD, LED or Plasma so running costs are radically reduced over the course of a year’s viewing. It’s early days, but OLED displays can also be made to be flexible which is the Holy Grail for newspapers of the future. And that begs the question… How long before someone develops OLED wallpaper that can be programmed to display any combination of colour, pattern or moving image?
